    Spiders

Black widows and brown recluses are common in Arizona homes.

    Overview

While most spiders in Arizona are harmless, the Black Widow and Brown Recluse pose genuine health risks. These spiders commonly inhabit garages, sheds, and undisturbed areas of homes.

    Identification

    • Black Widow: shiny black with red hourglass marking
    • Brown Recluse: light brown with violin-shaped mark
    • Most are 1/4 to 1 inch in body length

    Behavior

Spiders are primarily solitary hunters or web builders. They prefer dark, undisturbed areas. Black Widows build irregular webs near ground level.

    Risks

Black Widow bites can cause severe muscle pain and cramping. Brown Recluse bites can cause tissue necrosis. Both require medical attention.

    Prevention

    • Remove clutter in garages, basements, and closets
    • Wear gloves when handling stored items
    • Shake out shoes and clothing before wearing
    • Install door sweeps and seal cracks

    Treatment

Hydra applies targeted treatments to spider harborage areas, removes webs, and treats perimeters to reduce prey insects that attract spiders.
