Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes become particularly problematic during Arizona's monsoon season (July–September) when standing water creates ideal breeding conditions. Several species capable of transmitting diseases are found in the region.

• Small, slender flying insects with long legs
• Females have a long proboscis for blood feeding
• Size ranges from 1/8 to 1/4 inch

Female mosquitoes require blood meals for egg production. They breed in any standing water, as little as a bottle cap's worth. Most active at dawn and dusk.

Mosquitoes transmit West Nile Virus, Zika, and other diseases. Their bites cause itchy welts and allergic reactions in some people.

• Eliminate all standing water on your property
• Clean gutters and fix drainage issues
• Use screens on windows and doors
• Treat pools and water features properly
